The detectives were cruising the parking lot of the Garden State Plaza in Paramus a little after 8 o’clock Wednesday night when they spotted the 4-door 1993 Honda Accord, Capt. Tomas Padilla told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“They waited a little while and he came out,” said Padilla, the department’s commanding officer.

“The good news is he’s safe. There are no damages to the car,” the captain told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Police sent a juvenile complaint signed by the boy’s mother to the Family Part of Superior Court in Hackensack for what essentially is theft.

He will be referred for counseling, Padilla said.
