“The cold couldn’t stop us from riding for a cause such as this,” Chapter President Christopher “Shallow” Inserra said. “There are many families who don’t have coats and are much colder than us”.
The annual coat and food drive was held at the Straphanger Saloon in Hackensack – which nj.com readers chose as the best dive bar in New Jersey.
Members then roared in to drop off the donations at Bethany Christian Services in Fair Lawn.
Shallow thanked Straphanger Saloon owner Ken Lascar, as well as Moonachie Firefighter James O’Neill for helping coordinate the event.
Chapter Daniel “Omen” Cintron launched the event three years ago “with the idea of helping less fortunate families,” the chapter president said.
Donating to the cause were several other motorcycle clubs – among them, Fourth Watch MC, Knights Order MC, Untouchable MC and Knights of Fire MC.
SHMC was founded in December 2005 as a fraternal organization for like-minded, motorcycle-riding first responders who, as Shallow said, “love this nation and are committed to the guiding principles of this club: Honor, Integrity, Loyalty, and Dedication.”
“Our primary mission is to provide financial and other assistance to families of fallen public safety personnel and military veterans,” he said.
“As a non-profit, 501(c)3 public charity, we count on and appreciate the many generous donors and sponsors who help fund these projects,” Shallow said. “We raise funds through special events, donation drives, and other activities.”
In addition to law enforcement officers, the club boasts members have or are honorably serving in the U.S. armed forces and anyone else who “saves lives and protect property,” he said.
