Pedestrian struck on Route 4 in Paramus dies

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 63-year-old man struck by an SUV on Route 4 east in Paramus as he apparently tried to cross the highway last night was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center just before 9:30.

No charges have been filed against the driver, but the investigation was continuing, Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said this morning.

William Platt was in the center lane of the highway, just east of Forest Avenue, when he was struck by a 2008 Jeep Patriot, Ehrenberg said.

Emergency workers immediately began CPR, to no avail.

Route 4 eastbound was closed during the investigation.
