Pedestrian Struck, Killed By County Car In Hackensack Shopping Center Lot

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A 61-year-old pedestrian struck in the Shop Rite parking lot in Hackensack on Monday died after being hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said.

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said the fatal accident investigation was being conducted by the Bergen County Sheriff's Office and Hackensack police -- and overseen by the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office -- because the driver works for his office.

The South Hackensack resident was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and pronounced dead there after the 1 p.m. crash.
