The pedestrian was reported in serious but stable condition late this morning at Hackensack University Medical Center.

The Banta Place resident was walking west to east across the southbound lane of Broad Avenue when he was struck by the truck, driven by a man headed to work in North Bergen from Deer Park, N.Y., Capt. Richard Besser told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Police were investigating “where exactly he attempted to cross,” Besser said, “but initial investigative results seem to indicate he entered the southbound roadway between a line of parked cars.

“There was no crosswalk in the immediate vicinity,” the captain said.

Ridgefield Patrol Squad #1 provided first aid and maintained the scene, he said.

The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup remained at the scene and was cooperating with police, Besser said. An investigation was continuing.
