Jack D. Walker, who turns 72 next week, is being held on $250,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail on sexual assault charges, including the legal equivalent of statutory rape.
Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said the incidents happened “on several occasions with a female who was under the age of thirteen at the time” in Mahwah – but not at the church. Walker, who is married, was senior pastor at the time.
He is scheduled for an arraignment tomorrow in Superior Court in Hackensack.
On the church’s web site, Walker writes: “I began assisting at The Mahwah Full Gospel Church, Mahwah, New Jersey in 1965, and became the full time pastor in 1974. My Radio Broadcast, ‘Highway to Heaven’ is now back on the air on 620 am in the greater New York City area. Currently, our telecast is seen on local cable TV.
“I made two mission trips to Haiti, and two trips to Kenya, Africa. We are currently supporting mission works in Haiti, Africa, Philippines, Taiwan, Russia, U.S.A., and supporting Jews who are returning to Israel.”
His son-in-law, 44-year-old Curtis Franklin, was charged last month with having intercourse six years ago with a 15-year-old, as well as a four-year sexual relationship with a girl beginning when she was 12. Although the alleged victims considered the sex consensual, both were too young to be in bed with an adult — much less one more than twice their ages, Molinelli said.
