Passenger dies of injuries from post-party crash

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A New Milford man thrown from a car during an early-morning crash following a late-night party across the Hudson has died of his injuries, CLIFFVIEWPILOT.COM has learned.

Johnathan Wheatley, who was sitting in the back seat, underwent surgery for serious internal injuries he suffered after landing between the highway divider and a guardrail during the the Sept. 5 crash on Route 4. He was pronounced dead at 12:44 p.m. at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Investigators have yet to confirm 19-year-old driver Amelia Sankar’s account that a black sedan smashed into her Nissan Sentra, flinging it into the guardrail and the divider, and kept going. They are also awaiting the results of a blood-alcohol test she was given after telling police she had some beer at a party the group of five attended in Queens.
