Officers checking the building with the owner found ceiling tiles on the showroom floor and both men trying to hide behind a rooftop air-conditioning unit at the Wireless Depot at 1:30 p.m., Deputy Police Chief Robert Guidetti told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.
One of them, 44-year-old Manuel C. Martinez of Corona, Queens (above, left) jumped from the roof and was grabbed by Bergen County Sheriff’s K9 Officer Daniel Antinori and his partner, Eiffel, Guidetti said.
Officer Greg Hooper and Lt. David LaGrone arrested the other man — identified as Victor Felix-Lopez, 30, of the Bronx (above, right) — before he could follow Martinez off the roof, the deputy chief said.
Left behind on the roof were two large nylon sacks containing $10,230 worth of Apple I-phones, Samsung Galaxy S4 phones, assorted OtterBox cell phone cases and Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, he said.
Lopez was being held in the Bergen County Jail while Martinez (aka Pedro De Leon) remained in Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was being treated for a dog bite and injuries sustained in the jump.
Both are charged with burglary, theft and possession of burglary tools, with bail set at $150,000 each. Martinez also was charged with eluding.
First court appearances were set for July 15.
