David J. Clarke, 27, was being held without bail in the Dutchess County Jail pending extradition to New Jersey after authorities took him into custody in Poughkeepsie yesterday, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon.

Clarke is charged with sexual assault and child endangerment in connection with a relationship that authorities said occurred in February while the girl, now 16, was still under the age of consent.

Officer Justin Krapels was on patrol when he found the two together. Although the girl was of age, at 16, the officer gathered information.

An investigation Detective Vincent Aiello led to yesterday’s arrest.

A July 21 arraignment in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack was scheduled.
