In this part of the world, travel bans were rescinded on both sides of the Hudson, the bridges and tunnels were reopened and both NJ Transit and PATH trains were beginning to roll on a limited schedule after the threatened gangster storm never showed here.
Meanwhile, Paramus Park Mall, the Bergen Town Center (Bergen Mall) and The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack were reopening by noon.
“We did what we thought was best based on the predictions we were getting,” Gov. Christie said this morning.
Still, he said, it would be easier for all involved if people stayed off the roads today unless absolutely necessary.
“New Jerseyans should continue to stay off the roads whenever possible throughout the day as transportation and public safety officials continue their work to clear the roadways from the snowfall,” the state Office of Emergency Management said.
The National Weather Service says there will be more snow today, winds from 15 to 25 miles an hour and gusts up to 40 mph, with temperatures remaiing in the lower 20s — which still add up to risky navigating.
“My deepest apologies to many key decision makers and so many members of the general public,” said Gary Szatkowski, the NWS meteorologist-in-charge in Mount Holly. “You made a lot of tough decisions expecting us to get it right, and we didn’t. Once again, I’m sorry.”
