Officer Michael Lafrano and Richard Giacobone, Jr. found the 30-year-old Senate Road resident in an upstairs bedroom after his mother called police around 8 p.m., said Sgt. Daniel LaMorges, who also responded.

“He was semi-conscious with shallow breathing. His pupils appeared to be constricted,” Morges said. “It was brought to our attention by his mother that her son utilizes heroin. A needle mark was observed inside his left elbow.”

As the patrolmen tended to the victim, LaMorges said he prepared the Narcan kit and gave it to Giacabone, who administered a dose that brought him around after about a minute.

New Milford Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment.

Lafrano and Giacobone “exhibited extreme calm and their actions resulted in this party getting the medical attention he desperately needed,” LaMorges said.
