The unidentified man was crossing the street coming from the CVS shopping center toward the Brookchester Apartments at Faller Drive when he was struck around 6:15, New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro said.

“The vehicle was occupied by another female and a female child who was in a car seat in the rear seat of the vehicle,” the chief said.

New Milford VAC and paramedics took the man to Hackensack University Medical Center, he said. Police impounded the van while an investigation continues.

No summonses had been issued tonight, Papapietro said.

The chief said the incident is being investigated by Sgt. Kevin Kiene and Officer Derek Mattessich and Justin Pisano, who is also a member of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit.

“Pisano notified the unit but it was determined that the accident did not meet the criteria for a full response from the team,” Papapietro said.
