“It is unclear at this time if [she] stepped out in front of the vehicle or walked into the side of it as it passed,” New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro said, following the 3:40 p.m. accident yesterday outside the school on River Road near Cooper Street.

New Milford firefighters and school employees rushed to help her, the chief said. An EMS crew then took her to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Papapietro said police hadn’t yet determined whether to issue summonses to the driver, a New Milford resident.

P.O. Frank Haggerty is investigating.
