The routes begin each morning at 7:15 at the Ridgewood train station, taking commuters to work and elsewhere in the three-town area. At last count, 16 major corporations are being serviced by the shuttle, including KPMG, A&P, Marriott, Hertz, BMW, Mercedes, Eisai and the Woodcliff Lake Hilton, among others.
The move will not only help relieve traffic congestion but will also give the area an economic boost, said County Executive Kathleen Donovan, who plans a special ceremony at 10:30 tomorrow morning in Hackensack to herald the launch.
The tri-boro buses are handicap-accessible and seat 16 passengers, she said today.
They’re being being funded by a three-year, $150,000 “Congestion, Mitigation and Air Quality Grant” from the Federal Transit Administration through New Jersey Transit under the auspices of the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority.
“This will help relieve congestion from our heavily trafficked Bergen County roadways while helping to facilitate the expansion of our local economy by enabling the employees of our business community to get to work without frustration or difficulty,” Donovan said.
