Motorcyclist killed in five-vehicle pileup on Route 17 in Paramus

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: A 33-year-old motorcyclist from Elmwood Park was killed in a five-vehicle crash on Route 17 south in Paramus this afternoon, police told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.

The pileup involving a Jeep, a minivan, a BMW sedan and a fifth vehicle occurred around 1:45 p.m. near the Staples Shopping Center on the southbound highway.

Police officers who first responded administered CPR to the motorcyclist, who had severe bleeding and trauma.

Paramus EMS workers took him to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Authorities on the scene also included the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification. Also there were The Valley Hospital paramedic unit and the state Department of Transportation.

The left and center lanes were closed for more than two hours during the investigation, which Paramus police said tonight was continuing.
