Several witnesses and people with knowledge of the accident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT immediately following yesterday’s crash that the bottom of Michael Cullen’s leg was severed, although that hadn’t been officially confirmed yet this morning.
The driver of the Rockland Coaches bus, 61-year-old Eugenio Jiminez of Teaneck, was issued several summonses after the crash.
The bus was pulling out of the Coach USA garage on Old Hook Road, heading east, when the Harley-Davidson cycle clipped the rear bumper just after 3 p.m., Westwood Police Chief Frank Regino told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
“It caught his left leg, doing severe damage,” Regino said, adding that he couldn’t confirm the loss of the limb. The chief did say this morning that Cullen sustained “serious injuries to his lower extremities.”
AirMed 1 flew in to HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley, barely a mile from the bus station.
“They got him stabilized,” Regino said. “He was conscious, but he was bleeding pretty badly.”
The chopper then took Cullen to HUMC in Hackensack, the chief said.
Responding units included Westwood and Emerson police, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Unit, and Hillsdale and HUMC ambulances.
Old Hook Road remained blocked in both directions until 8:40 p.m. while investigators completed their work.
