Officer Jason Liaban spotted 20-year-old Matthew Jolls of Lodi around 3:40 a.m. yesterday in the area of Maywood and East Magnolia avenues, Detective Richard Brown said this afternoon.

Jolls was “carrying a duffel bag and acting suspiciously,” the detective said.

Police already were on the lookout for Brown, who was wanted in connection with a series of car break-ins and thefts in and around Hasbrouck Heights.

As it turned out, Jolls was carrying several GPS units, electronic devices and loose change, Brown said.

Liaban found the nearby owner of one of the GPS devices.

“As the investigation continued, additional victims came forward and identified their belongings,” Brown said.

Several items are still unaccounted for, however.

Maywood police asked that other residents check their cars and report anything missing to them: (201) 845-8800

Jollsl was being held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with several counts of burglary and theft, as well as possession of burglar tools.
