Roberto Nunez, 27, of New York, NY was charged with drug possession and distribution offenses and ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, Police Chief David Pegg said.

Officer William Phayre and Detective Jason Liaban smelled pot after stopping Nunez’s silver Mercedes for a broken tail light and a suspended registration, Pegg said.

Drug paraphernalia also was in plain view, he said.

Nunez was taken into custody and ordered held after he was found to have two active warrants out of South Hackensack.
