In four of the holdups, 30-year-old Samantha Dixon drove the getaway car for her boyfriend, 28-year-old Lamont Moseley, Maywood Detective Sgt. Timothy Moran told CLIFFVIEW PILOT early this morning.
Dixon also pulled her own job — and was recorded on surveillance video taking an estimated $1,200 in cash from a Maywood Avenue TD Bank branch on March 27, Moran said. Moseley was waiting for her, and they took off together, he said.
In addition, Moseley admitted committing a December 2011 bank robbery in Paterson, the sergeant said.
Both were arrested last night as they emerged from their River Street apartment in Paterson.
Fair Lawn police immediately went to Maywood police headquarters to charge Moseley with the Feb. 26 robbery of $2,800 from the TD branch on River Road in their town. Dixon was expected to be charged with conspiracy, among other possible counts, for her alleged role in that holdup.
Moran said his colleagues in Elwood Park, Haledon, Paterson and Totowa were being notified of the arrests and were expected to interview and charge the pair.
Meanwhile, Moseley and Dixon were being held on $75,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail, pending the filing of additional charges.
Totowa police quickly tied the April 17 robbery of $3,200 from the TD branch on Union Boulevard in their town to a $2,700 holdup at the Belmont Avenue TD Bank in Haledon five days earlier.
Moseley is expected to be charged in those robberies, as well as the March 15 holdup of a TD branch on Midland Avenue and Market Street in Elmwood Park and the December 2011 job in Paterson.
Working closely with Fair Lawn and Hackensack police, Maywood detectives first pegged Dixon, Moran told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
“We thought there might be a boyfriend-girlfried connection there,” he said.
The investigators eventually identified Moseley, who fit the description of a 6-foot, 170-pound man who wore a hoodie and dark cap while robbing the other banks.
The 6 to 10 percent of all bank robbers who are women believe they’re committing a “fairly safe kind of crime to commit in terms of personal risk,” said Robert McCrie, a professor of security management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan.
Some get nicknames, which experts say help keep their images in the public eye — from the glamorous “Starlet Bandit” who robbed a California bank to Atlanta’s giggling “Barbie Bandits” to the “Cell Phone Bandit,” who hit four banks in Virginia, all while talking on her cell phone, several years ago.
