James Gilly, 51, of Ridgefield Park was crossing East Pleasant Avenue near Elm Street — less than two blocks from police headquarters — when he was struck just before 10 o’clock.
The driver “stopped, backed up and drove around the victim after hitting him,” Maywood Police Chief David Pegg told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.
It was last seen headed north on Elm Street, he said.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Unit and the county Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification assisted with the investigation, Pegg said.
