The 66-year-old driver of a Mercedes and his son, who was in a rear car seat, were taken by ambulance following the collision with a Toyota at Spring Valley Road and Spring Valley Avenue just before 2 p.m., Maywood Police Chief David Pegg told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The child’s mother, who was also in the back seat, was OK, the chief said.

The Toyota driver, an 81-year-old man from Saddle Brook complained of chest pains and was taken to the hospital, as well.

“We really tested the ALS and BLS systems,” Pegg said.

Three HUMC BLS units and one ALS unit responded.

Pegg said it appeared the Toyota driver ran a red light.

Both vehicles sustained major damage and were removed from the scene, the chief said.
