Manslaughter charge in dad’s one-punch death

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Bergen County grand jurors this morning indicted a Cliffside Park woman in the death of her 75-year-old father, who suffered a heart attack after she punched him the face during an argument.

Sonja Jecmenica Castillo, 41, also is charged with endangerment “for slapping her 9-year-old daughter across the face,” said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

Grand jurors in Hackensack returned an indictment that includes a charge of reckless manslaughter, among other counts, in connection with the August 13, 2009 death of her Miodrag Jecmenica.

Authorities haven’t said what ignited the argument that ended with a single punch. The victim was pronounced dead at Palisades General Hospital a short time later.

“We saw them put him in the ambulance,” a neighbor told CLIFFVIEWPILOT.COM. “He looked like he was already gone.” (See: Woman kills dad with one punch, AND New charges in one-punch death)

Castillo remains free on $100,000 bail pending trial.
