Miguel Alexander Crespo, 35, will remain held in the Bergen County Jail until the July 19 sentencing.
Meanwhile, authorities told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that they will continue trying to determine whether there were any more victims.
Under a plea deal that Crespo accepted from prosecutors, “the recommended sentence is that you serve a state prison term of 12 years,” Superior Court Judge James J. Guida told him, adding that Crespo would have to serve more than 10 years behind bars.
The last seven years of the sentence must be served the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center for sex offenders in Avenel — to which he could remain civilly committed, depending on the results of a psychological evaluation.
“Once you get out, you will be on parole supervision for life,” Guida said. Crespo also must register as a Megan’s Law offender.
“Everything -– your height, your weight, your description -– will be posted on the Internet where anyone can see it,” the judge said.
Crespo, who has a previous sex-crime conviction on his record, was originally charged with three first-degree counts of sexual assault of a minor for having sexual intercourse and oral sex with the girl after bringing her from Bergen County to his Haledon apartment. He also was charged with molesting her and with impairing the morals of a minor.
He pleaded guilty today to statutory rape and molestation, admitting under questioning by Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Marybel Mercado Ramirez that he convinced the girl to have sex with him even though he knew she was underage.
