Eddy Cruz was being held without bail in the county lockup in Hackensack after arriving Monday from the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla, where he’d been held since his arrest less than an hour after a New Year’s Eve bank robbery in Mt. Kisco.
On Wednesday, a grand jury in Hackensack indicted Cruz, 39, in connection with bank holdups on Dec. 11 in Englewood Cliffs and Dec. 27 in Northvale.
Cruz also is charged in Ocean County with robbing a Jackson Township bank — also a PNC — last Christmas Eve.
No weapon was shown at either the Northvale branch, at Paris Avenue and Livingston Street, or the Englewood Cliffs bank on Sylvan Avenue.
Authorities said Cruz passed a note at each: “This is a robbery, give me all you have, no dyes no money packs.”
He made off with $5,000 from the Englewood Cliffs bank while wearing a promotional cap in advance of the Feb. 2 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium and carrying a black zippered bag with a skull on it, they said.
The robber looked more business-like while taking an undislosed sum in Northvale — in a black cap, overcoat and gloves and carrying a black briefcase with a folder containing the demand note.
The FBI said Cruz had the same black clothing on while robbing the Jackson Township PNC on North County Line Road.
The times were staggered — 11:15 a.m. in Jackson, 1:30 p.m. in Englewood Cliffs, and 4:15 p.m. in Northvale, the bureau said.
The indictment returned by a grand jury in Hackensack accuses Cruz of threatening “immediate bodily injury” to male tellers at both Bergen banks — one 62 years old from Dumont and the other in his late 20s from Bergenfield.
