Police said Stephen Schwarz pointed the shotgun at his brother as he approached the back door of his Nilsen Avenue home June 23 and fired, blasting a hole in a screen door and embedding buckshot in the porch.

His brother, who wasn’t struck, told police he’d gone to his brother’s house after work to discuss a fight earlier in the week over the alleged theft of money, they said.

He told them he punched out a pane of glass on the locked door, shouldered it open and tackled his brother. He said he snatched the gun and held his brother down until police arrived.

The indictment returned by a grand jury in Hackensack charges Stephen Schwarz with illegal weapons possession, attempted assault with a deadly weapon, terrorizing and pointing a firearm at his brother “with extreme indifference to the value of human life.”
