Matthew Luis, 20, was being held on $65,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a pair of weapons offenses.

The victim was expected to fully recover after being rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center following the 9 p.m. assault on South Pleasant Avenue, Police Chief John Ward told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

He’d been stabbed once in the trapezoid muscle near his neck with a 4-inch folding knife, the chief said.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 215-pound Luis was among a group of young adults who came to the victim’s home in a four-door black sedan, Ward said. Detectives were investigating the reason, he said.

Sgt. Michael Lembo was immediately on scene following a 911 call and took Luis into custody after questioning the group, Ward said. The others were released, he said.

The knife was recovered.

Ridgewood EMS and a paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital responded along with village police.
