The burglar alarm call came into headquarters at 11:30 Friday night, and Caruso, who was in his unmarked car, sped to Main Auto Body at 650 Outwater Lane.

There he spotted a black Jeep Cherokee backed up to a fence on the lot, with a woman inside.

Seconds later, a man and a woman hopped the fence and got into the Jeep, which sped off, Capt. John Scimeca told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Caruso got the SUV to pull over on Route Rt 46 West near Popeye’s.

Lodi Lt. Joe Pless and Police Officers Jorge Tronza and Mark Corrado arrived and ordered all three out of the Cherokee.

“Inside the vehicle in plain sight were five rims and tires,” Scimeca said.

Main Auto Body’s owner was called and identified his property, the lieutenant said.

Ten days ago, Paramus Police Chief Christopher Brock chased down and grabbed a suspected thief. “I just reacted,” Brock told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “Wasn’t thinking of anything except catching the guy.” CLICK HERE for that story.
