Leonia man severely injured in July 4th fireworks accident

A 52-year-old Leonia man “blew part of his calf off” in a July 4 fireworks mishap just after 9:30 last night, an emergency responder told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The Grand Avenue resident was blown backward, breaking his left leg and suffering severe burns on his right, Police Chief Thomas Rowe said.

He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Responders estimated the explosive had the same firepower as a quarter-stick of dynamite.
