However, both sides told Presiding Superior Court Judge Liliana DeAvila-Silebi in Hackensack that they’ve yet to discuss a plea deal over charges of burglary and desecrating human remains. So Julio Flores will remain here at least until March 25.

Flores, 36, did not speak, although he entered a not-guilty plea through a Spanish interpreter (PHOTO ABOVE: Mary K. Miraglia, CLIFFVIEW PILOT Courthouse Reporter).

Jealous that 28-year-old Jaritza Calderon was seeing other men, Flores strangled her in his Bronx apartment on his 32nd birthday in 2008.

He then chopped up her body, drove it in a van to Teaneck and buried the aspiring nurse’s remains in plastic bags in a false wall under a basement staircase in the vacant home.

The 5-foot-6-inch Flores, a Guatemalan immigrant who entered the U.S. illegally, had done construction work at the Ardsley Court site, authorities said.

The homeowners spotted Flores and called Teaneck police, who were questioning him when they discovered he was wanted in connection with Calderon’s disappearance the night before.

Flores quickly confessed, and a Bronx judge sentenced him to 19 years to life in 2010 for what she called “a crime of astonishing brutality.”

Flores was transferred on Feb. 11 from the maximum-security Sing Sing prison to the Bergen County Jail, where he was being held on a New York State detainer, as well as one from the INS, while the Bergen case is completed.

CLIFFVIEW PILOT first reported exclusively that Flores was brought to the Bergen County Jail two weeks ago:
