Central Municipal Court Judge Roy McGeady acquitted Lemkin of actually driving with the altered plates. As a result, he also cleared Lemkin of an additional violation of failing to display a valid inspection sticker on his vehicle.

Lemkin contended that he was framed by Detective Capt. Michael Russo because of his friendship with a man whose claims that the captain had an affair with his wife was dismissed by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
