Julio Flores was “so meticulous” in cutting up the body, Presiding Superior Court Judge Liliana DeAvila-Silebi told him this afternoon, “that I believe you have done it before.”
Flores is already serving 19 years to life in a New York state prison for killing 28-year-old Jaritza Calderon in his Bronx apartment in September 2008. His parole eligibility there comes up in 13 years.
That changed today when DeAvila-Silebi tacked 20 years on to his sentence, with no possibility of parole for 10.
Flores was “minutes away from committing the perfect crime” when the owner of the Teaneck house stopped by and discovered him, the judge noted.
“This was the way for Jaritza Calderon to rest,” DeAvila-Silebi said. “She needed to have this resolved, for Julio Flores to be found out.
The judge said she also “put an extreme amount of importance on the need to deter him from committing another crime. I believe he would kill again if he had the opportunity … ”

Jurors in Hackensack convicted Flores in July of desecrating Calderon’s remains, hindering his apprehension and burglary.
Before being sentenced today, Flores delivered a long, at times rambling speech that touched, in part, on how God showed him that what he did was evil — and how he’s become a changed man.
“Why does a woman have to die before a man finds God?” Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Wayne Mello responded. “[I]n that killing apartment in the Bronx, he did not see God, when he butchered that poor woman, when he cut her into pieces — my God, imagine what that scene looked like.
“When he put her in garbage bags like so much garbage, there was no God for him,” Mello added. “When he drove to Teaneck and began to put the parts of what was once a human soul – there was no God for him.
“That’s absolutely incredible to me.”
Flores will be returned to the maximum security prison in Ossining, N.Y. from the Bergen County Jail, where he’d been held before and during the trial in Hackensack.
“The day he’s finished in Sing Sing, he comes back to New Jersey to pay for each and every crime he committed,” Mello said.
