Workers who have been temporarily or permanently dislocated as a result of Hurricane Irene;
Eligible dislocated workers who are unemployed and not receiving unemployment compensation or other types of income support;
The long-term unemployed.
County Executive Kathleen A. Donovan said the positions were created through a partnership among the county’s Workforce Investment Board (WIB), FEMA and the Bergen One-Stop Career Center, with funding provided by a U.S. Department of Labor National Emergency Grant.
The Disaster Relief Employment Program employs workers for six months or longer to assist with public and private projects that provide food, clothing, shelter and other humanitarian assistance for disaster victims. The most you can make is $12,000.
After the initial six month employment period, the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development will reassess conditions to see if additional help is needed.
