Police who got the call just before 4 a.m. Saturday in the southern end of town found Jean N. Nelson, 42, bleeding from a wound in the right side of his chest, Englewood Cliffs Chief Michael Cioffi told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

They found his girlfriend, 34-year-old Monika Means – a Georgia native who most recently lived in North Bergen — at a neighbor’s house, the chief said. Police found the knife on the neighbor’s front steps, he said.

Officer James Tracy, who is also a paramedic, treated Nelson’s wounds until medical help arrived, Cioffi told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. Nelson was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he remained Monday.

A friend posted the $10,000 bail for Means and she was released pending a hearing in Municipal Court.
