Officer Jason Heese spotted Edwin Molina, 19, and 20-year-old Elvin Gonzalez a short distance from Tenafly Road near Riveredge Road, where the attempted holdup the night of Sept. 30.

The victims told police that one of the robbers pointed the gun and demanded money after both rode up on bicycles, Capt. Michael deMoncada told CLIFFVIEW PILOT the next day.

When the man and woman said they didn’t have any, the pair rode off. Neither victim was injured, deMoncada said.

Tenafly and Cresskill police flooded the area. Soon after, Hesse had the suspects in custody.

He also recovered the gun, the captain said.

The indictment charges both men with armed robbery and with possession of an imitation firearm “under circumstances that would lead an observer to believe it was possessed for an unlawful purpose.”

They remained held on $200,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail.

US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials also have placed detainers on both.
