Evanalain B. Sieberkrop-Hershman, 25, slipped into the Bogle Drive home through an unlocked door, grabbed a 74-year-old resident and demanded money, Police Capt. John Valente told CLIFFVIEW PILOT the night of the Aug. 29 incident.

The woman’s husband, also 74, tried to intervene but was struck in the head, Valente said. Their 50-year-old upstairs neighbor rushed to help, but she was pushed aside.

The husband was taken to Meadowlands Hospital for treatment of face and head injuries, and Lyndhurst EMS workers treated both women at the scene.

Based on the victims’ description — and assisted by a witness who’d seen him go by — police found Siberkrob-Herhman in a residential parking lot in the 700 block of Riverside Avenue.

He was “attempting to remove and discard several pieces of clothing in an apparent attempt to avoid being recognized by police,” Valente said, adding that Siberkrob-Hershman was carrying a hypodermic needle.

The grand jury indictment charges him with burglary, three counts of aggravated assault and hindering apprehension by destroying evidence.

Siberkrob-Hershman remained held on $420,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
