HOW YOU CAN HELP: City Place in Edgewater has become the official collection point for donation and relief efforts for the hundreds of families burned from their homes in the Avalon fire last night.

A host of volunteers, including local students, are hard at work at the Donation & Relief Center, which opened its doors at noon today and will remain in operation on the City Place promenade next to Fleming’s Steakhouse.

Among the items they’re requesting:

bottled water

nonperishable foods

personal hygiene items

new warm clothing

baby items

People are also being asked to donate gift cards, along with new clothes and toys, school supplies, diapers, socks, toiletries and electronic device chargers. Target and CVS are best for gift cards because they’re nearby on River Road.

The center is also accepting clean used clothing and cash, organizers told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“This is an opportunity to give back to the Edgewater community when they need us the most,” said Julie Bader, a City Place property manager with the JLL firm.

“Our PR team has been working overnight with local officials to coordinate relief efforts and we are planning to keep the donation and relief center open as long as our community needs us,” she said.

Volunteers are asked to stop by the Donation & Relief Center or email: events@galebranding.com
