Bergen County Sheriff’s Detectives Steven Stallard and Salvatore Cina took Gabriel Santana — a 20-year-old Paterson native –to the Bergen County Jail for processing. He is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

The trouble began when two unidentified Bergen County Police Officers went to the River Street shelter in Hackensack at 2 this morning looking for Santana on a warrant out of Prospect Park, Lt. James Giblin told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Somehow, he broke free of both of them and fled — leaving both with minor injuries.

Interviews with Santana’s loved ones pointed Stalland and Cina to Santana’s possible wherabouts, Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino said this afternoon.

After several hours of surveillance, they contacted Santana, who surrendered at his folks’ home, he said.

“Incidents like these always highlight how important it is that officers are alert when making even the most routine of stops”, Saudino said.

“I am proud of the way Detectives Stallard and Cina handled themselves in this situation,” he added, “and I am happy that the officers from the County Police were not seriously injured during the alleged attack.”
