Have you seen this man? Sketch released in Hackensack luring incident

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: Hackensack police this afternoon released a sketch of a man who an 11-year-old boy said tried to get him into his SUV yesterday afternoon. Police believe he may be the same one involved in similar incidents in Maywood and Oradell.

The vehicles are different, but the descriptions the youngsters have given police in all three towns are similar.

The most recent incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. yesterday: The boy told Hackensack police the man approached him in a Jeep Wrangler near the corner of Union and Sussex streets.

The boy described him as older, with stubby facial hair and wearing sunglasses.

He said he asked whether he knew where the area Costco was, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

After he told the driver he didn’t know, the youngster said, the man demanded he get into the SUV.

The boy said he kept walking and the man drove off.

Salcedo said his investigators are comparing notes with their counterparts in Oradell and Maywood, where similar incidents were reported.

And although the vehicles differed, “the descriptions given of the suspect are nearly identical,” he told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Earlier this year, police said a mechanic in his 20s drove different vehicles while trying to lure youngsters in Tenafly, Cresskill and Dumont. SEE: Arrest made in Tenafly, Cresskill, Dumont luring incidents

Oradell police sent a letter to local schools urging parents to warn their children to avoid strangers and get out of harm’s way if any approach them.

(NOTE: A report out of Hawthorne isn’t considered related: A 13-year-old girl told police she’d walked away from a football game by herself just after 9 o’clock Friday night when a man grabbed her arm and tried to walk her away. She said she broke free and ran.)
