“I always knew I wanted to participate in the fight against cancer, but I had to think carefully about how I could best make an impact,” Magno said.
In the end, the Hasbrouck Heights High School student said she decided to both honor the memory of her grandfather (inset, below) and “contribute to medical developments that will help to cure the disease that took him from us.”
“We are extremely grateful for Amanda’s generosity,” said Andrew Pecora, the chief innovations officer, professor, and vice-president of cancer services at the center. “Her donation will support important cancer patient support services and research efforts.”
The John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center is among the nation’s top 50 cancer hospitals – and the highest-ranked in New Jersey – in U.S. News and World Report ratings.
Officials there tout it as “New Jersey’s largest and most comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, management, research, screenings, preventive care, as well as survivorship of patients with all types of cancer.”
With 14 specialized divisions, the center provides “comprehensive multidisciplinary care, state-of-the-art technology, access to clinical trials, compassionate care and medical expertise”
