Nadine Karcs, 36, accidentally backed into another car with hers outside the Fu King Smoke Shop on Main Street just before noon on Wednesday, then went into the nearby nail salon to tell the vehicle’s owner what happened.
That woman called police, who went to the smoke shop to get Karcs’ side of the story.
She “became argumentative and disorderly” and was taken into custody after refusing to cooperate, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.
A routine search at headquarters turned up the marijuana, he said.
Witnesses said Karcs shouted “Don’t you have anything better to do?” at the officers, along with “Get the [expletive] out of my store!”
Karcs was released on a summons to appear in Municipal Court to answer charges of simple marijuana possession, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Shopowner Robert Reichart earlier this year had some neighbors fuming over the name of his store — which is a block from a grade school — as well some of the items he sells. The exchange for the store’s phone number (201-420-YEAH) is often used as shorthand for smoking pot, they noted.
Reichart said his critics are reading too much into things.
