Ramadhan Muhammad fit the description of a man who’d just snatched a cellphone from a Main Street store when Officer Alexis Mene approached him Sunday afternoon, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“As they began talking, the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana,” Salcedo said.

When Muhammad opened his backpack to retrieve his identification, Mene spotted two clear plastic cannisters of marijuana, the captain said.

A search turned up one zip-locked bag of pot and another filled with 100 smaller baggies for packaging, he said.

Muhammad was being held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail on various drug distribution and possession charges.

Police, meanwhile, continued looking for the cellphone thief.
