The couple, known to area police, recently moved to Little Ferry after warrants were executed at their previous apartment in Hackensack, City Police Director Michael Mordaga told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.

The child was home and crack was being processed on a table when officers hit the first-floor Main Street apartment on Friday, Mordaga said.

Seized were three pounds of pot, a small amount of crack, $1,600 in cash — along with bank accounts that held $20,000 — and two vehicles, he said.

Those included a black 2006 Mitsubishi 380 with a hydraulically-operated rear license plate that flipped down to reveal a secret compartment, the police director said.

Bruce and Castro were charged with various drug distribution charges within 500 feet of public housing, along with child endangerment.

In connection with the investigation, Hackensack narcotic detectives also arrested 34-year-old ex-con Brian Brown, a city resident, while seizing several ounces of crack, a loaded handgun, Mace, $2,000 in cash and two vehicles at his Prospect Avenue high-rise apartment, Mordaga said.

Brown was being held on $100,000 bail in the Bergen Conty Jail, charged with various drug and weapons offenses — including possessing a weapon while committing a drug-related crime and being a felon in possession of a gun.
