Working together, a female shoplifter left the River Street supermarket with assorted cosmetics as her male companion blocked the guard from chasing her around 9:30 last night, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

Chasing them to their car, the guard got a cellphone photo of their license plate. The car then clipped her as the man hit the gas, Salcedo said.

EMTs treated the guard at the scene, after which she declined further medical attention, the captain said.

The license plate number was broadcast, and this morning Fort Lee police found the car at a Route 4 hotel, Salcedo said.

After watching it for nearly 40 minutes, Detective Sgt. Michael Antista and Detective Ryan Weber spotted the couple and took them into custody, he said.
