Hackensack Police: Felon Caught Using 'No Parking' Sign For Target Practice

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- An ex-con with a BB gun used a Hackensack street sign for target practice from his apartment window, said city police, who arrested him.

Authorities said police said were watching on Friday as Shepherd Starbuck Haight, 44, shot the small-caliaber rounds at the "No Parking" sign in the 400 block of Hudson Street.

They arrested him and seized the gun, along with an ounce or so of pot, they said.

Haight -- who records show has an extensive criminal record, mostly in Delaware -- was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

He was was charged with weapons and drug possession, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and threatening to commit a crime.
