Hackensack police charge Bergenfield woman with stealing pocketbook from court

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: It was a bold move for a Bergenfield woman to steal another woman’s pocketbook from a Hackensack courtroom — but not a very wise one, given the video surveillance cameras, city police said.

Nancy Llerena, 65, was accompanying a friend who had to answer a traffic summons yesterday morning, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The victim left her pocketbook behind as she approached the judge, and Llerena slipped it inside her own, got up and walked out, Salcedo said.

“We identified the man she was with and he identified her,” the captain said.

Police retrieved the pocketbook from a Main Street mailbox. The victim’s credit and debit cards and driver’s license were still inside but not the $15 in cash she said she had.

Llerana was charged with theft and released without bail pending a Municipal Court hearing.

“She gets to go back to the same courtroom,” Salcedo said.
