Hackensack man charged with choking Englewood girlfriend

An argument following a New Year’s Eve party led to domestic violence assault charges against a Hackensack who Englewood police said choked his girlfriend.

Robert Thompson, 45, wasn’t supposed to be with the victim, under a permanent restraining order, police said.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Glenbrook Parkway at 1:19 a.m. Thursday, where they found visible signs of assault on the 45-year-old victim, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said.

The woman was tended to by emergency medical personnel, while Thompson was taken to police headquarters and then to the Bergen County Jail, where he remained held on $70,000 bail.

He is charged with domestic violence aggravated assault and violating the restraining order.
