Craig Macauley, 36, was then grabbed by Detective Lt. Darrin DeWitt and Detective Phil Carroll and charged with thefts in both towns.

FDU authorities called city police Friday morning when they discovered copper pipes, cables and grounding bars missing from the roof at Dickinson Hall after their removal caused a leak, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Campus surveillance cameras captured images of a suspicious truck, he said.

After determining ownership, the detectives waited outside Macaulay’s house yesterday, then followed him to Teaneck.

Macaulay, who has a history of drug-related offenses, emerged from the Glenpoint carrying what looked to be a heavy canvass bag about an hour after he went in, Salcedo said. He put it in his truck and returned to the hotel, the captain said.

After he returned with another bag, the detectives moved in.

Macaulay was being held on a combined $40,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary and theft in both municipalities.
