Alyssa Elphick, 55, who no longer works for the firm, was released without bail pending a Jan. 4 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Wednesday.

Contacted by company officials late last week, detectives from Grewal’s Financial Crimes Unit found that Elphick “created fraudulent checks in the business’ name made payable to herself and others, which she then used to draw funds from the business’ legitimate bank accounts,” the prosecutor said.

She also “used her access to the business’ accounting software, Quickbooks, to destroy and/or alter the records in an attempt to conceal her theft of the money,” he said.
