Two of the coats have been recovered — one at a tailor shop in Mount Vernon and the other at a clothing store in Harlem, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon. One was valued at $23,950 and the other $19,995.
The most expensive one — valued at more than $86,000 — hadn’t been recovered yet, he said.
Detectives Ryan Weber and Michael Antista worked the case and, after distributing surveillance video to other police agencies, got hits out of Fort Lee and Edgewater, Salcedo said.
Joseph Willis Williams, 32 (above, in red sweatshirt), and Portland Ramseur, 29, were both being held on $150,000 bail each, charged with theft. Records show a prior arrest for Ramseur out of Paramus for robbery.
Still at large was Jerel Sterling, 25 (above photo, right), also of Mount Vernon, Salcedo said.
Police said two of the thieves went into the Idra Alta Moda store on the mall’s first level while another waited just outside on Jan. 8.
In a flash, the two men in the store grabbed the three coats off display racks and bolted.
“The coats weren’t chained or anything,” Salcedo said. “It was essentially a hit-and-run shoplifting.”
