Two people living in the second-floor Prospect Avenue apartment were ushered out by firefighters after the blaze broke out in a bedroom a little after 7 p.m., firefighters said. Nearly 100 other building residents also got out OK.
One required treatment at the scene while the other was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, both for smoke inhalation, city Fire Lt. Justin Derevyanik said.
Teaneck’s FAST unit and a ladder from Englewood joined Hackensack, and the fire was knocked down within 20 minutes, he said. Covering the city were South Hackensack, Bogota, Ridgefield Park and Garfield.
Also responding were Hackensack police and EMS workers and the city Building Department.
Other apartments sustained smoke and water damage, Derevyanik said.
